The Cottages of Clayton, Inc., offers endless opportunities for each resident to live a rich and stimulating lifestyle. Activities are designed to meet the various needs of our residents, keeping in mind the importance of gathering, exploring, learning and celebrating.
Gathering Activities
Residents are invited to gather and socialize in many ways, whether it is to laugh, share, worship or just to enjoy the beauty of the sunset.
Sharing: Our residents have rich and varied lives that naturally provide the opportunity for sharing in many ways.
Generational activities that bring together the young and the “young at heart” are perfect ways to share and make new memories. Visiting schoolchildren often fill the gathering halls with laughter and cheer. Crafts enable them to connect in artful ways.
Art-of-life activities enable residents to feel special as they demonstrate and share specific skills or talents they’ve mastered along the way. Everyone has something to share, whether it is bread baking, woodworking or simply telling a well-crafted story.
Spirit: To nourish the soul, residents may gather to sing, pray or study the Bible with local visiting clergy. Traveling to preferred houses of worship is another opportunity to gather in spirit.
Nature: Nothing lifts the spirit more than a breath of fresh spring air, the warmth of September sunshine, or a summertime lunch in the garden. Gardening, bird-watching and nature walking are just some of the outdoor activities that beckon our residents to gather and enjoy the blessings of nature.
Exploring Activities
Expanding one’s horizons adds joy and freshness to life. Trips and outings are welcomed opportunities to experience new things and make new friends. Reminiscing activities give residents a chance to explore their individual selves and their lives' journeys.
Outings: Trips to museums, galleries, theaters and shopping malls give residents the opportunity to socialize in a larger setting. A pleasurable drive through the country on an autumn day is a top favorite. Suggestions for exploring new areas of interest are always encouraged.
Memories: Special activities for memory sharing are designed to encourage residents to explore their separate lives. Through photos and stories, memories are made clear and forever real.
Learning Activities
Our learning activities are often found to be stimulating by residents who love to: solve puzzles, discuss their thoughts and ideas, or be challenged by continuing to learn new things.
Continuing education: Classes and discussions of current events provide a forum for a meeting of the minds. Book clubs and literary discussions, as well as challenging games and puzzles, are other ways residents can continue to sharpen their wit.
Cultural arts: Other artful ways residents can stretch themselves and discover new talents include painting, drawing and playing musical instruments.
Celebrating
The joy of family, friends and life will always provide many reasons to celebrate!
Family: Birthdays, graduations and anniversaries are all cause for celebrating on family night. More casual opportunities include potluck dinners and Sunday brunch. Loved ones are always welcome!
Holidays / seasons: One celebration gives way to the next as residents showcase their talents by decorating the halls for all seasons and reasons. Outside, fall cookouts and summer dances are merely more reasons to make merriment!
